DECK is a card trick in 3D that lasts 45 seconds. A card falls out of the dark, the deck bursts out of it, is shuffled, thrown through the air, dealt into suits, turned into a word and spun into a whirl. One card is left, and at the end it is live. It leans toward your pointer.
It is not a video. Every frame is drawn live by glimo, the animation engine behind this website, and it plays in a real player. You can pause it, scrub it and play it backwards.
Why an animation engine makes films
It is easy for an animation engine to look good in a demo with three boxes. A film is the opposite test. Hundreds of animations must start on the right frame, land on the right pixel and stay in step when someone scrubs backwards at any speed. Every bug shows.
That is the point. Making ONE LINE, our first film, found three bugs in glimo’s timeline, and we fixed them before this website was built on it. DECK pushed further, with 3D, a moving camera, and a deck of cards that has to stay a deck.
Watch them
Both films are in the Lab. DECK takes 45 seconds. ONE LINE, a film drawn in one unbroken line, takes a minute.
